Description
The Linshang LS178 small-aperture spectrophotometer uses a separate 1mm probe to measure color on small components and narrow colored areas. The cabled probe can be positioned independently of the touchscreen unit, helping you place the measurement opening against fittings, molded parts, cable surfaces and other samples with limited accessible color area.
Positioning small samples
Place the probe against the sample or turn its opening upward to present a small item from above. The sample must cover the aperture and remain steady during the approximately one-second reading. Consistent contact and orientation help comparisons between similar parts, especially when the surface is curved or textured.
D/8 SCI geometry includes specular reflection in the measurement. A full-spectrum LED, D65 illuminant and 10-degree observer form the optical reference. Reflectance values are displayed from 400 to 700nm at 10nm intervals, alongside the selected color coordinates.
Color data and connectivity
The touchscreen offers CIE Lab, LCh, Luv, Yxy, RGB and CMYK, plus whiteness, yellowness and reflectance options. Color-difference calculations include ΔE*ab and ΔE00. Save a reference, measure the next part and apply your chosen tolerance to a pass/fail comparison.
Bluetooth connects to the LSColor mobile app, while USB supports Windows software for data review, export and report preparation. The handheld unit contains a rechargeable battery and uses a USB Type-C connection for charging.

Measurement preparation
Calibrate with the white reference tile and keep the opening clean. Select the same color space, comparison formula and tolerance for both reference and sample measurements. A 1mm opening targets a local area, so check several representative points when the part has a visibly uneven color pattern.
